What It Is
Back in Stock automation notifies shoppers when an out-of-stock product they requested becomes available again.
It converts pent-up demand into immediate sales and is one of the highest-performing retail automations.
Example Message
MMS with product image (SMS fallback if not supported):
“{{product_name}} is back in stock in your size! Tap to shop now: {{product_url}}. This is a one-time alert.”
Best-Practice Default Settings
- Message Type: MMS with product image (preferred); SMS fallback if not supported
- Timing: Immediate when product/variant restocks (>0 units)
Inclusions
- Shopper explicitly opted in for a BIS notification
- User is identified and opted in
- Product/variant is back in stock and purchasable
Suppressions
- Quiet hours: 8 PM–8 AM local (messages queued until morning)
Product Logic
- Sends for the specific product/variant the shopper requested
- Restock link leads directly to that variant pre-selected
Frequency Controls
- One message per opt-in (shopper must re-subscribe if item sells out again)
